What to watch and review this weekend
What to watch and review this weekend, October 15 and 16.
SATURDAY
Strictly Come Dancing (BBC1, 6.30pm) Another two hour epic as the waltzing celebrities take a spin on the ballroom floor. And the controversies just keep on coming. Anastacia skipping the dance-off, Will Young sensationally quitting the series and even a race row. It’s all going on.
Meet The Parents (ITV, 7pm) New dating show in which one male contestant and one female must choose between three potential partners. And their decisions are based solely on excruciating encounters with their dates’ parents. The intellectually challenging proceedings are hosted by Holly Willoughby. Who else?
The X Factor (ITV, 8pm) The karaoke contest that time forgot trundles on as Cowell and his gang hurl in yet another desperate gimmick that won’t work. Some old tosh about a juke box. And it’s Motown Week. How modern. Cutting edge.
SUNDAY
Strictly Come Dancing Results (BBC1, 7.15pm) Your chance to eject another celebrity desperado. Just for fun. Plus musical guests Madness.
The X Factor Results (ITV, 8pm) Your chance to vote out hopeless Honey G and send her back to the obscurity for which she was designed.
Tutankhamun (ITV, 9pm) Spectacular new Sunday night drama starring Sam Neill and Max Irons chronicling the greatest archaeological discovery of all time. In the early 20th century digging up Egypt is all the rage. But the big finds are drying up and the approaching global war is making life increasingly difficult in the Valley Of The Kings.
Poldark (BBC1, 9pm) Let’s face it, this series hasn’t taken the nation by storm. Anyway, more Cornish capers as topless tin miner Ross faces the grim prospect of financial destitution. Let’s hope our three cornered hatted hero can still afford a horse to gallop along the clifftops on.
The Crystal Maze (Channel 4, 9pm) After more than a decade away, the cult game show returns for a one-off Stand Up To Cancer special. With celebrity guests Rio Ferdinand (very good on TV!), Michelle Keegan, Sara Cox, John Peacock and Josh Widdicombe. Hosted not by Richard O’Brien but by newbie Stephen Merchant.
