It's not rocket science

A lukewarm welcome to ITV's sizzling new spectacular It's Not Rocket Science. It's not much of a programme.

“Why am I doing this?” enquired breathless host Rachel Riley. Dunno Rach, but I'd hazard a guess that Countdown's microscopic ratings might have something to do with it. You can't be too careful.

The bastard child of Tomorrow's World and The Gadget Show, this nerdy nonsense tries way too hard to be exciting.

Thirty mediocre minutes of children's tosh stretched out to a kidult hour by excruciatingly unnecessary studio chats that drag on for ever,

Pretending she was risking her life, daredevil Riley sensationally proved that if you soak yourself with water it'll take longer for flames to burn you. Who knew?

But good to see INRS obeying the first two sacred rules of television. Thou shalt have Romesh Ranganathan (presenter)... and thou absolutely must have Joey bloody Essex (guest). Oh goody.

As genial Ben Miller did his best to make it vaguely watchable, I was awestruck by the miracle of electricity. With one press of a button my telly set switched off. Click.
