Tonight's TV tips: Against The Law and Long Lost Family
What to watch and review on Wednesday, July 26.
Long Lost Family (ITV, 9pm) Return of the tear-jerking TV favourite that tracks down long lost relatives and makes them cry. Tonight’s emotional roller coaster stars Marion and James who were forced to give up their illegitimate baby boy for adoption. An astonishing 46 years later, hosts Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell orchestrate a magical reunion. Pass the Kleenex.
Against The Law (BBC2, 9pm) Based on journalist Peter Wildeblood’s book, this film length drama chronicles the real life nightmare experienced by many gay men in the 1950s. Refusing to feel shame, Wildeblood was jailed for gross indecency… which was basically the “crime” of being homosexual. A stunning performance by the excellent Daniel May as a brave man who helped to end a cruel and outmoded law.
The Windsors (Channel 4, 10pm) In tonight’s allegedly hilarious royal spoof, the pretend Kate and Wills visit faux-Charles’ traditionalist town of Poundbury to unveil yet another statue. Who finds this less-than-sophisticated satire funny? Hands up.
Fargo (Channel 4, 10.35pm) In case you’re in any doubt, this is the best drama currently on TV. And one of the best ever. Amazing performances by Ewan McGregor and David Thewlis in this compellingly unusual saga of nefarious deeds in the frozen wilderness of Minnesota. Quite simply, brilliant.
