Based on a true story, this chilling and compelling drama stars James Nesbitt as a Northern Irish dentist whose passionate affair with a policeman’s wife leads to horror. If you’re going out, record it.

Witless (BBC1, 11.25pm) Take two girls and put them into the witness protection scheme. After watching a gangland shooting, a couple of female flatmates are given new identities and made to live in Swindon. A patchy comedy that has its moments.
