What to watch and review on November 11 and 12.

Carol Voderman

SATURDAY

Strictly Come Dancing (BBC1, 6.55pm) This is the big one (it says here in this BBC press release). The remaining minor celebrities battle it out to make through to next week’s Blackpool special. Apparently, the Blackpool episode is a big deal.

The X Factor (ITV, 8pm) This series really isn’t getting enough credit for pulling in the lowest ratings in this ailing show’s chequered history. Geriatric judges, dad dancing host Dermot O’Leary not being funny and a bunch of woeful wannabes with all the star quality of an earthworm. Can’t imagine why this year’s karaoke capers are attracting so little interest.

SUNDAY

Strictly Come Dancing: The Results (BBC1, 7.15pm) Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman proudly present the tense dance-off to decide who doesn’t make it to Blackpool’s legendary Tower Ballroom. Viewers’ favourite Ed “carthorse” Balls might as well get his train ticket now. He’s off to the seaside.

The X Factor Results (ITV, 8pm) Another no-hoper reject gets a reality check and heads back to the glamorous world of supermarket shelf-stacking. Hard to give a damn. No potential stars to see here… move along.

Planet Earth II (BBC1, 8pm) After last week’s triumphant series opener, Sir David Attenborough hits the high ground for a unique look at secretive lives of mountain-dwelling animals. Spectacular stuff. As good as it gets.

My Mother And Other Strangers (BBC1, 9pm) New drama set in 1943 chronicling the war-torn lives of the Coyne family and their neighbours after the American Air Force touches down in a rural Northern Irish parish and sets up camp.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! (ITV, 9pm) Here it is, the moment they say we’ve all been waiting for. Ant & Dec introduce the latest showbiz desperadoes to brave the rigours of the Australian jungle and do battle with kangaroos’ backsides and bucket loads of creepy crawlies. Look out for courageous campers Carol Vorderman, Larry Lamb, Ola Jordan and some footballer whose wife had an affair with John Terry. Plus, a girl from Gogglebox. Great.
