SATURDAY
Paul O’Grady’s Hollywood (Channel 4, 8pm) First of an occasional series in which the always entertaining comic investigates the magic of the movies. In this opening salvo, he looks at the art of making us cry and sobs at classic weepies from Brief Encounter to Titanic. With celebrity contributions from the likes of Jon Voight, Celine Dion and Sally Phillips.
Billy Connolly: Portrait Of A Lifetime (BBC2, 9pm) Celebrating the Glasgow-born funnyman’s 50 years in showbusiness as well as his 75th birthday. Scottish artists John Byrne, Jack Vettriano and Rachel Maclean each paint a portrait of Billy while he chats to them about his extraordinary career.
Celebrity Big Brother (Channel 5, 10.20pm) Catch up with the bizarre Derek Acorah’s latest alleged encounter with the dead, the even more bizarre Trisha Paytas’ non-stop seedy sex talk and get to know – drum roll - “the real Sarah Harding”. Not forgetting a bunch of unknown Americans and two of the world’s greatest actors… Paul Danan and Barry from EastEnders.

Diana: In Her Own Words (Channel 4, 8pm) Nearly two hours of the late “People’s Princess” talking about her favourite subject… herself. In fairness, recorded in 1992 and 1993, the tapes were private and never intended for public consumption. But Di’s speech coach Peter Settelen cashed in and flogged them. Now, 13 years after they were broadcast in American by NBC, we Brits finally get the chance to hear them. If you think this controversial programme is a) an outrageous invasion of royal privacy or b) you’re bored sick of the Diana industry… don’t watch it.
Poldark (BBC1, 9pm) Series end as Demelza is bombarded by the amorous advances of hunky Hugh Armitage. Will she walk out on her brooding husband? As usual, Captain Ross is too busy fretting about the starving villagers to waste time on his disintegrating marriage. Our hero is also rather busy defending Cornwall from a fleet of French ships. It’s all going on.
