The weekend's TV tips: Taboo, The Good Karma Hospital, The British Academy Film Awards
What to watch and review this weekend, February 11 and 12.
SATURDAY
Let It Shine (BBC1, 6.55 and 8.45pm) The Gary Barlow Show continues apace as the search for five losers to star in Gary Barlow’s thrilling musical trundles on amid widespread apathy. Now, in a dire double bill, we also have to put up with the results of the viewers’ vote that will decide who gets the boot. Shame it’s not all of them. The “singing” is beyond terrible. Make it stop.
The Voice (ITV, 8pm) The penultimate week of the blind auditions. After next Saturday the chairs stop spinning and then, if all the past series are anything go, millions will stop watching. Who will win? Who cares? Brilliant.
Taboo (BBC1, 9.15pm) The Company declares war on James Delaney, driving him to even darker places. Starring dynamic duo Tom Hardy and Jonathan Pryce, this dazzling drama is the only reason to stay in on Saturdays. Or why not record it and go out?

SUNDAY
The British Academy Film Awards (BBC1, 9pm) Luvvie-in-chief Stephen Fry hosts our not-as-good-as-the-Oscars back-slapping ceremony as sheep-like showbiz types fall into line and rave about La La Land. Even though it’s crap.
The Good Karma Hospital (ITV, 9pm) Episode two of the new drama about British doctors generously tending to the healthcare needs of grateful former colonials in southern India. What would they do without us? Stars Amanda Redman and Neil Morrissey.
