Rather like a Michael Gove speech, apparently written in a few minutes before he made his decision to stab Boris in the balls, chest and back, this review actually took me ages. It took me ages because I'm genuinely confused, but I may have an answer.

Rather like a Michael Gove speech, apparently written in a few minutes before he made his decision to stab Boris in the balls, chest and back, this review actually took me ages. It took me ages because I'm genuinely confused, but I may have an answer.

Many won't agree with me but let's face it, we all know why Britain really voted leave last week, it's that politically incorrect, fuel charged word 'immigration' and the BBC, sorry, Adrian Chiles starts his journey from the Heart of England - West Bromwich Bus Station, asking 'us' the people why we suddenly seem to be a bigoted racist lot, or was it something that had being simmering in our broken communities for years?

Before I go any further, or you scroll through this at the speed of light, screaming "What a load of bollocks", let me explain a little about myself. I was a massive 'remainer'. I'm what you'd call 'well educated', I'm Welsh, I'm white, I'm also horribly depressed by this whole thing. I've cried, and I'm scared, but I wanted to listen and watch this, my only wish, if only the BBC made these kind of programmes before the vote. If only the political elite had listened .If only people had voted in other elections. Why pick on this one?

As the political world looses it's head, looses it's leaders and frankly looses the plot, this may come across as a 'confused' review. That's because I am genuinely confused. The majority of the views portrayed here are the result of the austerity cut backs spreading services thinner rather than the fault of the EU or migrants from the continent ... but let's move on for a moment.

Adrian, born and bred in the West Midlands kicks off with this statement: " I now live in London, which was firmly for remain, where the general belief seems to be that it was in places like this that the thick, the uneducated voted for brexit. Well I'm not having that, I grew up round here, it just doesn't sound right to me".

Now, I'm not too sure how typical the people Adrian meets here are (everyone seems to be sporting England football tops), but let's assume for a moment that they ARE , here are some of the views shared.

"This is our country now. Enough is enough."
"I'm not racist but ...".
"I never had nothing ...".
"It's got nothing to do with race, but I mean ... were helping everyone else ... it's overflowing".
"I voted leave because I don't thing the government are putting enough back to the community".
"There's too many people coming in, but there's nothing wrong with immigration".
Jim originally from the North East: "Once, being British was an identity ... now it's like little Poland, I've got nothin' against Poles"
"The politicans are totally out of touch"
"Community was about being the same thing, part of the same heritage".
Barry and Hazel who make bandanas for dogs.
"I've got no objection to people coming into the country, it's the volume"

So, was it all about immigration? Was it? There's been an outcry of hate about this documentary on social media, mostly by angry Brexit voters that the BBC has branded all Brexit voters as thick racists. But what else did they vote for? Perhaps sovereignty, "Making our own laws", whatever they might be.

I'll be honest here, I've actually always liked Adrian Chiles. I even liked him on 'The One Show', and yes, I was an actual fan of the early days of 'Daybreak'. He's an interesting voice on our TV boxes, and there aren't enough voices like his, and I defend this programme. I assume it was aimed at the kind of people that appeared in it, so getting the masses to watch 'Panorama' can only be a good thing.

Now we come to the crux of the matter, and like Boris said for those that waited for the punch line here it is.

Towards the beginning of this, I said I was a Welshman. I am. My first language is Welsh (that's why my grammar is quite poor) I even have red hair and everything! The Welsh, like the Scots and the Northern Irish are used to the English being 'in charge'. We have been dominated both politically and by population by the English for quite some time. We are kind of used to it. When the English find that things are changing, perhaps not in their favour, they throw their toys out of the pram. They demand control, they WANT TO BE IN CHARGE. I think that behind the upset, behind the fact that the tories have let down working communities for years, the fact that as a nation we don't actually produce much any more, deep down this IS about race. It's about that the English whether they are rich or poor, whether they thought they were voting for less immigrants more money or more champagne, ultimately this was about the English wanting control, because as a race, that's what the English have always demanded. The race to the bottom has begun.

I look forward to your comments.
