Channel 4 debate

The final TV debate of the EU referendum is over, and what a shambolic mess the whole thing was. Jeremy Paxman looked nonplussed by the whole affair. Perhaps semi-retirement and a lot of fishing has made him loose his edge, but were you hooked?

There was a strange mix of celebrities, politicians and 'normal' folk. Sheila Hancock remembered the Nazis, Katie Price worried about Harvey, Delia Smith attacked Farage’s poster as “anti-human”, and God bless her, Sandie Shaw praising the EU for her mediocre music career. Talking of puppets, we had Dragon Theo Paphitis pulling the strings of 'nice guy' Chuka Umunna. And then it all kind of abruptly ended leaving most of us actually wondering what the whole bloody referendum is actually about. Sovereignty, immigration, the economy or just a battle for the keys of number ten by a bunch of childish public school toffs? Who knows, but the whole thing has become a scary mess, and I do wonder about the future of politics here in the UK, when people get so worked up about the size of a bunch of bananas, or even more absurdly the size of their dicks, because ultimately this is a battle for 'power'.

But now it is over to the 'Great British Public', who in a few minutes will head to the ballot box to decide the fate of Britain’s relationship with Europe. The polls at time of writing are 'too close to call'.

Are you in, out or shake it all about? I'm a shake it all about kind of guy.

The campaign is over.

After what seems to have been an eternity since the whole thing started,
the wait is finally over and polling day has arrived and I must admit . . .

I'm glad it's all over.

After watching all the debates, listening to the arguments, opinions and close analysis of the figures, polls and statistics I am now of the opinion . . .

that I haven't got a bloomin clue!

Well; that's not strictly true. But having said that, it did take a good while for me to come to my decision because (and to be fair to both sides) they did put some pretty valid points across very well.

But when you really think about it, this whole EU campaign has been a rather grubby affair. I know politicians can be rather "Bitchy" at times and to be honest, there has been plenty of that during this campaign and for me personally, this has been an unpleasant distraction.

There has been a lot of back biting and name calling,
and even one MP sadly lost her life!

For legal reasons I will not comment further on that tragic incident. Suffice to say that any loss of life during what is by definition; described as a democratic cause is truly sad, and my sincere respects and condolences go out to those involved.

Anyway; back to the referendum.

The mainstream TV channels have covered it well with gusto and some would say, with more than a bit of political bias. Most notably last night's final debate on Channel Four at 9pm was a real eye opener particularly on the part of Sheila Hancock who made a passionate speech for the Remain Camp.

Some would say Jeremy Paxman hosting C4's debate put his journalistic foot in it by saying to Sheila that she was "Getting on a bit", but that's Paxo for you.

It didn't stop Sheila from delivering what might be considered by some as the best speech of the night. Apart from that this final debate on C4 was pretty much in my opinion a verbal free-for-all brawl! There were times when Paxman was clearly struggling in trying to keep order among those taking part.

Then suddenly; out of the blue came Sandie Shaw!

Just when Jeremy had finally got control of the studio Sandie Shaw pops up from nowhere with her diva diatribe about music? What the heck was all that about?

It doesn't matter because it made good telly
and I was glad I stayed up to watch it.

And now that the debating, canvassing around the country, TV and Radio appearances, newspaper headlines and soundbiting are done with, it's time for us Joe & Josephine Public to have our say.

Now to those who follow me on Twitter, you will already know which way I have gone. And I won't be using this post to persuade you to do the same as me.

I would however say that you SHOULD vote even if you do not understand all the facts and figures you have seen, read and heard.

With a General Election; you can correct your mistake if you feel you've made one after five years. This however; will stay for perhaps decades to come. And for me personally, the outcome will effect more-so those much younger than myself.

It's a BIG decision with only TWO choices.

Vote with your heart and/or with your head; but as long as you DO vote.
Because trust me; you won't get this opportunity again.

Whatever the result on Friday morning, you'll be glad you tried to make a big difference with just one small X

Independence Day; or more of the same? YOU decide.

Thanks for reading.
